Character character: Typography as form

〔EN〕The book “Character character” originated from my typography and editorial course of the same name at the Berlin School of Design and Communication in the summer semester of 2022 (BAKD4). It serves on the one hand as a documentation of the exercises and work of students and on the other hand is a typographic set of rules that serves as a design companion for the students. The contents of the course were structured and summarized by the students. Based on this project, the complete process of producing a print product was worked through and realized. For this purpose, the class was divided into two parts. In the first one, the content/exercises about typography were done and thus a solid knowledge about typography was developed. In the second step, this knowledge was put into a book form and the complete book was designed in different teams.

〔DE〕Das Buch „Character character“ entsprang dem gleichnamigen Typografie und Editorial Kurs and der Berlin School of Design and Communication im Sommersemester 2022 (BAKD4). Es dient zum einen als Dokumentation der Übungen und Arbeiten von Studierenden und zum anderen ist es ein typografisches Regelwerk, dass als Design-Begleiter für die Studierenden dient. Die Inhalte des Kurses wurden darin strukturiert und von den Studierenden zusammengefasst. Anhand diesem Projektes wurde der kompletter Prozess der Produktion eines Printprodukts durchgespielt und verwirklicht. Dazu wurde der Unterricht in zwei Teile gegliedert. Im ersten wurden die Inhalte/Übungen über die Typografie gemacht und so ein fundiertes Wissen über die Typografie erarbeiten. Im zweiten Schritt wurde dieses Wissen in eine Buchform gebracht und in verschiedenen Teams das komplette Buch gestaltet.
